Iran finish runners-up at AFC U-16 Championship [highlights]

167 Views After losing a close match to Iraq, Iran has finished second at the 2016 AFC U-16 Championship.

This match was taken to penalty shoot-outs after neither team could score in regulation time.

Iraq was able to just barely defeat the Iranians 4-3 from the penalty spot, and therefore lift the trophy.

In 2008, Iran was able to win this tournament by defeating South Korea 2-1; this was Iran’s best result at the AFC U-16 Championship.

With six goals, Iraq’s Mohammed Dawood finished as the top scorer of this tournament, as well as taking the MVP title; Iran’s Alireza Asadabadi, Allahyar Sayyad, Mohammad Sharifi, and Mohammad Ghaderi all scored three goals for their country.
